A query would probably reveal, Travis found as a VP or even CEO of a major corporation. This twisted one is a psychopath, "He was polite, always well dressed, bright and handsome. He fooled all of the adults". He knows how to leverage his false persona to conceal his predatory proclivity to abuse others, "it was his developmentally disabled younger relative. The six-year-old kid... gentle and harmless and well liked in the neighborhood, was now splayed below Travis". It's probably wishful thinking that Travis has long been dead. But as it goes, the good die young and the evil ones thrive.

There was a 12th grader when we were in 11th, who had sexually harassed several of our female friends. We all knew he was “weird”, and we talked very seriously on at least two occasions about beating him up fairly badly. Never did it - because we knew that wouldn’t really solve anything. But all the girls, and even the guys, steered clear of him. 25 years later, I learned he had recently lured a 14 year-old boy to a park and raped him. Not one of the friends I later told was the *least bit* surprised.

Even if they can’t always evaluate the degree, kids always know who the weird and/or dangerous ones are. I asked my 12th grader “Who in your school is potentially dangerous?” He told me of a kid who makes all kinds of threats, later brought a large knife to school, and was expelled. I asked did he know the kid was that dangerous, and he said “Oh yeah. We all did.” I’d never known this, I guess...because...I didn’t ask?
