Psst, guess what? The goal has never been to remove ALL the guns from ordinary citizens. MY goal, and that of many sane-minded people, has been to remove weapons of war (so-called assault weapons), and clips allowing the expenditure of hundreds of rounds of ammo in small bursts, from the "marketplace."

Australia did it. Granted they're smaller than us, but it still happened. It *could* be done, but those who need to do so must also have the WILL to do so. THAT is where our problem primarily lies. I am a firm believer in "where there's a will, there's a way." If we can get our opposition party past their current obsession with "Anything Goes Donnie," we may well find persons that have the will to get the job done. Yeah, I know, big "IF."

There's no will for this though. In fact there seems to be a lot of anti-will. And if dead toddlers doesn't convince anyone nothing will. No. I think the only real world solution is just to bunker ourselves from those that would do us harm. We don't even notice what we have to go through to fly...and this happened during our lifetimes. I mean I am sure you remember what air travel was like in 1970. I do, at least. But trying to talk to gun guys about any other solution is wasted breath I fear.

Yeah, I remember what it was like to fly in the 70s... I still marvel at how restricted it got without hardly anyone creating a fuss. I keep coming back to the inescapable fact, however, that we are the only first-world country that suffers from this idiocy in such numbers. Then again, we're the only supposedly developed country that has this many guns in the hands of this many people (some of whom shouldn't even have a toothbrush, much less a gun). I understand the point, but the incurable optimist in me still screams that we can change it. *sigh* That b!tch should have conked out right around 9/11, but nooooo, she's still there and still saying sh!t. *shrug*

At least the pilgrims had a place to go, whackos though they were. I would happily head to mars with the people whose brain type harmonize with mine, except for the thought that two people with rational brains might make an irrational baby. And then the whole things starts over. Indoor parks it is.
