Eskimo brother. Race baiter. Engineer. And every bit the man who made me the man I am today. For better or for worse. And there are a dozen I'd rather see dead than him.
Offering deepest condolences for your loss, and assurances that I am not letting a day pass that I don't tell the people I love just how much I love them. They may not be able to find my passwords, or the login for the bank accounts, but they know I love them. <3
You have my condolences. I didn't know him, but have long been a keen observer of the person through his music, and his thinking through his writing and interviews. Hell, even the way he conceptualised recording has influenced my own work in a distinct domain where some analogy can be drawn. I saw an earnestness and humanity in him that supported and held together the sincere pursuits of others who shared the same, and my experience of life has been so much better for it. There's a common thread to many bands I adore (many he recorded, like OXBOW) that contrasts with much of what I see around me in the mundane experiences of life-- a kind of true appreciation of each other in seeking to express something unalienated, or earnestly in response to alienation, where there's the kind of support and love that serves the collective interests in a profound way. This is what I most value in the music I appreciate, whether I imagine this or perceive it accurately is unimportant to me.
People who are troubled by disagreements with his stances on this or that seem to wholly miss the point of just about everything to me. Despite mainstream assumptions to the contrary, life does not come with a user manual.
I have no heros, but he threatened that position. Long may he live indeed.
Much Love, Brother. This fellow is among many whom I would not have had knowledge of without your Journalism and Experience and am better off for it. Thank you.
I, too, have read a lot of pieces on Albini in the last few days, and was looking forward to the one I figured you'd do. Glad the wait is over.
My condolences to you on the loss of your friend.

Fuck Amazon and Bezos, but...DO buy Mr. Eugene's book!
I think I'm 'bout ready to re-read it. Highly recommended.
